FAQ: Ordering a ketubah

[ return to FAQ ]  [ expand all ]

How long does it take to order a ketubah?

The whole process usually takes 3 to 4 weeks from the time you place the order to when you receive your ketubah. This includes time for me to create and ship your ketubah, as well as time for you to collect your Hebrew information, review the proof, and make sure everything is perfect. But don't wait to the last minute! Be sure to give yourself enough time to look at all the options, talk to your Rabbi or Officiant, ask me questions, and then make your decision.

Rush orders

If your wedding is less than three weeks away, please contact me before placing your order so we can review my schedule and discuss the details of your order. Any ketubah ordered three weeks or less before the wedding will incur a rush charge of $100. Rush orders cannot have custom text. Rush orders will be upgraded to express shipping.

What information do I need to collect?

If you are going to have a Hebrew text in your ketubah, there is some information we will need to personalize it.

  • time of the wedding (this lets us calculate the wedding date for the Jewish calendar)
  • your Hebrew names
  • your parents' Hebrew names
  • if either of your father's is a Levite or Cohen
  • if any of your parents are deceased

If you want to get started collecting this information early, you can use this form and fill in the blanks: Download Hebrew Form.

If you don't have this information when you place your order, you can leave those spaces in the order form blank. I will then send you a follow-up email that outlines everything you gave me, and all of the information I still need to get started.

Proofing your ketubah

After I create your ketubah, I will send you a proof through email. This includes a full color image of the ketubah, and an Acrobat PDF file of the text that you can print for easy reading or faxing. Make sure you go over every detail of your ketubah, and have your rabbi review any Hebrew text. It is your responsibility to check and approve all of the text and content. If you find any mistakes, I'll fix them and send you a new proof. Once you approve a proof, it is considered completed, and your ketubah will be printed and shipped to you.

Shipping rates

I ship your ketubah to you in the same way I ship my fine art prints to galleries: your ketubah will be carefully rolled between two sheets of acid-free tissue, and placed in a reinforced shipping tube for extra protection. Your ketubah is then delivered to you via FedEx or UPS. Prints are placed in acid-free acetate sleeves, and shipped in reinforced envelopes via USPS Priority Mail.

*Due to how long it takes to ship, I require a minimum of 4 weeks to work on a ketubah that will be shipped to the UK or Australia.

Payment

Payments are due in full when your place your order. When you complete your order, within the 1-2 business days, I will email you a Paypal invoice so you can make the payment with your credit card.

Making changes to your ketubah after placing your order

We recognize that you may unexpectedly need to change your order after you place it (e.g. changing the design, the options you selected, or the personalization). However, because your ketubah is created specifically for you, please understand that such changes may result in additional work and expenses for us. Therefore there may be an additional change fee, depending on when you request the change. If you request a change:

  • before you send all of your personalization information: no change fee.
  • after you send your information, but before we start the design: no change fee.
  • after we start the design: may be a change fee of at least $50
  • after you receive the proof: may be a change fee of at least $50
  • after you approve the proof, but before we ship your ketubah: there will be a change fee of at least $100
  • after we ship your ketubah: there will be a change fee of at least $100

Ketubah cancellation and reprint policy

Since these ketubot are custom designed for each customer, all sales are final, and they cannot be returned. If you need to cancel an order before your proof is emailed to you, there will be no charge. But once the proof has been emailed, the cancellation fee is $100. After the ketubah has been shipped, your order cannot be cancelled, returned, or refunded.

If a ketubah arrives damaged, I will quickly replace it at no charge. (Please save the damaged art and the packing material so I can make the appropriate insurance claim with the shipper.) If you need your ketubah reprinted for any other reason, there can be a reprint fee of $100 (plus shipping)
