This summer, I have added 20 new photographs to my botanical abstracts series, including ones of sunflowers, tree bark, ice, and pine needles. See all of my new photographs.

Furnace II (an abstract photograph of a sunflower)
A fellow artist told me that these "ethereal" photographs remind her of "the Hubble images from outer space." I love this description! It really nails how I approach photography. I use my camera to explore the "deep space" hiding in the tiny details of nature. I love to see how the petals of a flower interact with each other, or the way a drying leaf curls around itself. I'm always surprised at the unexpected scenes I discover through my lens.

Unravel (abstract of a fallen leaf)
Ansel Adams said that the film is the score, and the print is the performance. This is especially true in the digital darkroom. I am constantly learning, changing and evolving. My vision is refining and maturing. My tools get more sophisticated and more powerful. And my ability to pull that vision out of the pixels is always getting better. Continue reading...
